A couple weeks ago we reported on rumors of new Sony e-readers. Sony issued a press release yesterday, confirming the rumors and giving more details.
The new line of e-readers will include the new Reader Pocket Edition™, Reader Touch Edition™, and, in the U.S., the wireless Reader Daily Edition™. Sony also announced development of a set of applications for iPhone and the Android Marketplace to extend the Reader experience across multiple portable devices.
Sony has restyled all three of the devices, reduced their size and weight, and made the new touch screen available across the entire line. All three devices use E Ink® Pearl electronic displays that are readable in direct sunlight.
The Pocket Edition is $179, the Touch Edition is $229, and the Daily Edition will sell for $299.
The Reader Pocket Edition and Reader Touch Edition are available immediately, and the Reader Daily Edition is expected to be available in time for the holidays.
